A Romantic Getaway

Ever since the beginning of January, I have known that Aaron has been planning a romantic getaway for us. I didn’t know when or where he would take us, but I have known that it was coming! Earlier this week, he got a call on his cell phone in the evening, and I, assuming that it was work related, took Mari out of our office/bedroom and closed the door. But before I closed the door, I heard Aaron answer and the caller say, “Hi, this is Kim.” Kim is my mom. Aaron had pretended that it was a work call, but I knew there would be only one reason for my mom calling him and not me. So I’ve had my suspicions that our romantic getaway would be this weekend. My mom called me the next day and asked if I could come over Friday morning to help make the cake for a surprise birthday party that she was throwing for my baby brother. That was not unusual, but since I had heard her call Aaron, I knew there was more to it than just frosting a birthday cake. I knew that she was trying to get me out of the house so that Aaron could come and pack our things. So, on Friday morning, I wrote him this note and stashed it in our suitcase:
I ran some errands on Friday morning and called my mom once I was on my way. Shortly after I called her, Aaron called me just to say hi, but he asked, “So, where are ya right now?” That’s when I knew for sure that I was going to get away with my husband for the first time since Mari was born! I went over to my mom’s house, frosted the cake, and around 2pm, Aaron walked in and said, “Hey, I have I don’t have that much time, but do you want to go to lunch?” His walking in like that isn’t unusual because he works out of four offices and is constantly having appointments at clients’ homes, so he’s always out and about. I kissed Mari good-bye, and we headed out to the car. He started driving to the freeway, and when he took the onramp to go north, I finally asked him where we are going. He said there are some restaurants at the next exit that he thought we might go to. I said, “But I thought you didn’t have a lot of time.” He said, “So I’m not making that much sense.” When we passed the exit he was talking about he said, “So I have just one question…what is this?” He pulled out the note I wrote him that morning. “You got my note!” I exclaimed. We had a good laugh at that.
So we spent a romantic Friday and Saturday at the arcade playing Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero, at our favorite restaurant Carver's Steaks and Chops (we went there the night we got engaged), at IHOP for breakfast, and at the theater watching "The Spiderwick Chronicles". I could get used to this!
Special thanks to my romantic hubby for making it all happen!
