Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a nice, quite Valentine's Day this year. For breakfast, I make chili cheese puffs in a heart-shaped muffin tin, a cinnamon swirl cake, fruit, and my signature pink milk. I make the cake the night before and the cheese puffs two days before (they keep well in Ziploc bags in the freezer, so when you want some, you take it out the night before to defrost in the fridge, then microwave them in the Ziploc bags to maintain their moisture), so preparation for breakfast took 5 minutes. Dinner was easy too. I've just discovered "deep pit roasts". You can buy them at the grocery store for under ten dollars, and they come wrapped in paper and string and seasoned. You just put them in the oven for 8 hours at 250 degrees, and the paper keeps all the juices in, so it comes out juicy and perfect without any preparation. Out here, you can buy them at Save Mart. Anyway, we had a deep pit pork roast (they also come in beef and chicken), potatoes, carrots, and sparkling Martinelli's (of course) for dinner.
Something that Aaron's family does that we've decided to carry over is the tradition of the "Valentine's Fairy". Traditionally, the Valentine's Fairy doorbell ditches presents on the porch. Our presents were a little big to leave on the porch, so we just gave them to eachother as they came. For Mari, I made her an adult-sized bean bag. She chose the white fur fabric at the store. The tricky part was finding the right stuffing. The normal bean bag stuffing would have cost well over $60. So I called around to post offices and found one that would sell me protective packing peanuts for cheap. I only needed 8 cubit feet, but it was a lot cheaper to buy the 14 cubit feet bag. The lady brought it out, and it was taller than I was! I have a little Sentra, so when I brought it out to the car, I wasn't surprise that it wouldn't fit in my car not matter how much I tried! The good thing about living so close to family is that I can call whoever is closest to rescue me! My grandma came and took the bag home for me. Thanks Grandma! Aaron got me an over-the-door mirror that I've been wanting for a long time. Before now, I had to stand on the tub to see what I looked like full-length. I got Aaron a set of wireless speakers so we can broadcast our music from our computer anywhere in the house. It's nice to hear music again!
Aaron and I started dating the week after Valentine's Day (I still think he did that on purpose) so we only had one Valentine's Day together before having Mari. Having a little one around makes it a little bit harder to do the romantic thing all the time, but we still do! However, now more than ever, I can see the importance of date night! Mari usually doesn't cooperate when we want to watch a movie, but she was a trooper and let us enjoy one for once! We watched "The Nanny Diaries".
After Mari went to bed, I finished the candy roses that I've been working on for a while. I had to make 24 of these before I got it right! I made them in high school as part of a Girls' Camp fundraiser. We made bouquets of these and sold them for Mother's Day. What I forgot since then was that you have to cool them in the fridge. If they don't cool fast enough, the red and green parts don't come out clean. Argh. Now I know! To make these, you have to paint in the mold the red and green then pour the filling. I did three fillings: chocolate, vanilla, and peanut butter. They are quite time-consuming, but so fun to make! It was actually quite relaxing making these. But, it's a lot of fun to make these with some friends!

Fun new background color! I am so impressed with the ingenuity of your bean bag making skills! The breakfast looks tasty too! I totally know what you mean about needing an "over the door mirror" I have to stand on the toilet to see myself full length. Those speakers were a GREAT idea!
