Death & Taxes...Well, not death--just taxes

I've been worrying a lot about the direction that a lot of the citizens of the United States want to take this country. I do believe that I live in the greatest country in the world, but I believe a lot of people are being misled.

When Mitt Romney dropped out of the race, I decided to vote for John McCain. I don't think that either Obama or McCain are the best candidates for president of the United States, but I do believe McCain is better than Obama.

Today, McCain gave a speech in Florida. I read the transcript today, and I really felt that John McCain knows my worries better than Obama does. McCain said, "Senator Obama says that he wanted to spread your wealth around. When politicians talk about taking your money and spreading it around, you'd better hold onto your wallet. Senator Obama claims that [he] wants to give a tax break to the middle class, but not only did he vote for higher taxes on the middle class in the Senate, his plan gives away your tax dollars to those who don't pay taxes. That's not a tax cut, that's welfare. America didn't become the greatest nation on earth by redistributing wealth; we became the greatest nation by creating new wealth."

My husband and I have dreams of his growing business, but I feel like Obama doesn't want us to succeed. I feel like he saying, "Grow your business, but if you make over $250,000, you have too much, so I'm going to take it from you and give it to people who need it more because I know what to do with your money better than you do." Government handouts to the poor do not help the poor become richer and independent--it keeps them poor and dependent on the government.

If we are blessed with financial success, we want to help those who need help getting on their feet, just like the countless people who have helped us as a young family. But that decision to help people will mean more if we are not forced into it like Obama wants. The best way people help other people is through the kindness of their hearts, not through forced taxes. Even though our means are small right now, we still give charitable donations, and that feels a lot better than paying taxes.

You are so right! It is so frustrating as a small business owner, because that is who the $250,000 limits hurts. It isn't "wealthy" people, it is small business owners, who on paper make $250,000 but in real life don't come even close. It is maddening.

I completely agree. Obama's Tax plan REALLY bugs me and I won't be voting for him.

you know, this election is a tough one for me. i have to say that i don't 100% agree on all of obama's politics, but i'd trust him with our country, leaps and bounds over mccain. i feel like half the time mccain doesn't know what he is talking about, and i know sarah palin doesn't. i feel like obama is thoughtful about issues and so smart, and that is the kind of person that i want running things with our country in this fragile state. he doesn't enter into things lightly. from the very beginning of this election, even when romney was still in the running, i have only ever that felt that obama was a good man. i think it's so weird that people are "scared" for our country if he wins, like he is going to turn us into a socialist country or something. i have never felt that at all, and i think it is the republican campaign that puts these ideas into people's heads to scare them, and i think it's manipulative.

i understand the frustrations about the tax thing, but i honestly don't think that it is going to be "breaking the bank" for people to have to pay a little extra percentage of taxes. sure, it might be a pain to have to pay those, but i hardly think it is going to inhibit people from growing their businesses. i think things definitely get over-exaggerated during the elections. just my opinion though.

anyway... there are other things i would like to say too, but i don't want to write a novel in your comments section! :)

this really has been an interesting election year, and it has been interesting to read people's opinions. thanks for sharing!

Sarah! I've been meaning to leave a comment on your blog for forever! Mari get's more and more beautiful, and you are so right about this election. It's how I felt about the last two! I keep hoping that someday we'll get a candidate who blows us all away. It always seems like choosing the lesser of two evils. I was hopin that Mccain would choose Romney for VP. Let's just hope the right candidate wins!
