5 Great Finds of the Month

Old Navy Sweetheart Jeans

I am very picky about my jeans. I am short, so I have to get short jeans, and those sizes are hard to come by. I also like my jeans to fit a little loose, but getting a size up always makes the porportions wrong on me. I also need jeans to sit at my waist because I need something to hold my post-pregnancy tummy in. The low-cut jeans won't do it for me. Since low-cut is the style, jeans that sit at your waist AND are cute and not old-woman looking are VERY hard to come by. I discovered last week that Old Navy offers short and tall jeans aside from the regular length jeans, and their jeans come in four different rises: The Diva (lowest rise), The Flirt (mid-rise), The Sweetheart (classic rise aka at your waist), and The Goddess (high rise). The Sweetheart Jean also is more relaxed through the waist and hip area. I found that through Old Navy, I could be picky and still get what I want! My final pick: The Sweetheart Jean, dark authentic color, bootcut, size 6 short. What are your favorite jeans?

Laughing Cow Light Wedges

My sister Mindy just came home from her mission a couple weeks ago. She introduced me to a delicious snack: Laughing Cow Light Wedges. Just one wedge makes a satisfying snack. Each wedge has 35 calories, only 2 grams of fat, and 2.5 grams of protein. Spread it on a healthy cracker (I recommend Kashi TLC crackers), and you have yourselft a healthy, satisfying snack!

Lost - ABC Full Episode Player

One of the great things about technology and competition these days is that you can watch almost any TV show online. Aaron and I started watching "Lost" a few weeks ago. I got the first DVD from the library, but if you reserve things through the library you will know that it can take forever to get something. So we frantically search our contact lists for friends who might have the DVDs. My friend Matt informed me that you can watch all of the episodes online here. Thanks to abc.go.com, Aaron and I can feed our Lost addiction nightly.

Target Children's Clearance Rack

Since Mari is turning two soon, she has almost outgrown all of the baby shower gifts I received when she was born and the hand-me-downs my friends used to supply us with. Now I am faced with actually having to start buying her clothes! DI is great, but sometimes, I just want to buy her new clothes. My solution? The Target children's clearance rack. I am a frequent flyer at Target, so I watch the prices go down on items in the clearance rack. I watched a set of two pairs of pajamas start at $15 and eventually make its way to $4. Two pairs of pajamas for $4...not even DI can beat that. Target already has good prices, but I save even more money when I wait for the clothes to go down to at least 50% of the original price. Because summer is just ending, I'm starting to buy Mari's summer clothes for next year. I got her an adorable swim suit that was originally $10 for $5. Another great buy was a shirt for $1.97. I'm fine with sharing the clearance rack with you as long as you leave the girls' size 2T - 3T alone. :)

Spaghetti Squash with Pancetta, Tomatoes, and Walnuts

My garden produced 5 beautiful spaghetti squash this season. I acually meant to buy a summer squash plant, but instead accidentally picked up a spaghetti squash. I've never cooked with spaghetti squash, let alone eaten it, so I searched for recipes to use it with. In Raley's "Something Extra" free magazine, I found this delicious recipe:

INGREDIENTS
2½ lbs. spaghetti squash
6 strips pancetta (in the Deli), coarsely chopped (I've also used bacon)
2 large tomatoes, seeded and chopped
1 tsp. garlic salt
1/3 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup chopped, toasted California walnuts
2 to 3 tbsp. snipped fresh basil

DIRECTIONS
Prep time: 20 minutes,
Cook time: about 25 minutes

Cut spaghetti squash in half lengthwise and scoop out seeds with a spoon; place cut-side down in a shallow microwave-safe dish with 1/2 inch of water. Cover with plastic wrap and cook on HIGH for 15 minutes. Let cool slightly. Using a fork, scrape spaghetti squash into strands; set aside. Cook pancetta in a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes or until crisp; remove from skillet. Add tomatoes; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Add spaghetti squash and garlic salt to skillet; cook, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes or until very hot. Add pancetta, cheese, walnuts and basil and toss lightly.

Makes 6 servings.

Sarah- great post!! Phil and I are also currently sucked into the "LOST" void and it's getting so bad that I'm even incorporating similar plots into my dreams. We're midway through season two, but it is a fun little wind down. Thank goodness for fast internet.

What great finds :) We're going to be in the San Fran area from the 16th-19th. We're planning to go to Carmel and Monterey and then be back at my house Friday evening (the 17th). We're also going to San Francisco on the 18th and then we'll be leaving Sunday afternoon. If any of that fits into your plans we'd love to see you and Mari (and Aaron--depending on what is going on). We miss having you guys in Provo (even though I know it's been a couple of years)!

Thanks for the ON tip! I am actually going there tomorrow so I will have to check the jeans out. I usually can only wear Gap jeans and I had to order them on line due to the size I wore (pre-lily anyway...).

I also watch Lost and wish so much I didn't!!! I am pretty tired of it....I swear I really think the writers are quite "Lost" and have no idea where the show is going....But I will watch it again because of course I have to see what happens!

We miss you in the ward!

I feel so proud that my little sis loves Laughing Cow...just another trend of the VC sister missionaries. You know, you should try Hummus next, it's especially good with Stacey's Pita Chips. Yum!
