Apple Hill 2009

Every year, my parents take Mari to Apple Hill. Last year, Mari got really excited when she saw the ponies, but when I went to put her on one, she looked at me like I was crazy! She just wanted to pet it last year. This year, we went to visit my grandparents in Utah and they have horses near their house. She wanted to ride the horses then, but I told her when we went to Apple Hill this year she would get to ride the horses. Six months later, we went to Apple Hill, and she was very enthusiastic about the ponies again. Grandpa put her on a pony named Cheyenne, and Mari's smile could not have been bigger! She especially loved it when Cheyenne sneezed. She was the only one on the ponies, so she got an extra long turn.
She still talks about how Cheyenne sneezed and how Cheyenne has two nose holes.
What would a trip to Apple Hill be without tasting the apple juice? Yum!
This was the first year we brought her without a stroller. She enjoyed being free and the shoulder rides from Grandpa.
Another tradition we have is to share an apple fritter (or a doughnut as Mari calls it).
I think Mari ate most of the "doughnut."
Mari loved seeing all the different kinds of apples. She chose a small red apple to eat in the car on the way home.
They sell "fish/goose food" (aka dog food) that you can throw to the fish and geese. We bought some and Mari had a blast feeding the fish. They jumped high when they ate the food. The fishers saw how many fish Mari was attracting, so they put their lines in where she was throwing food and Mari helped them catch a big one! (Ask Mari to show you how a fish jumps...it's pretty funny.)
At the end of the trip, we went to a Mexican restaurant in Placerville. Mari was very well behaved the whole trip. It was a little day in heaven!

I have such fond memories of Apple Hill and miss it terribly! My grandparents used to live in Placerville, its such a pretty place especially in the fall.

Mari looks so much like you in some of those pictures! She is really cute!
